Stylish in a suit!

Interview with Isabelle Thomas, personal stylist for CEOs of major groups, who shares her views on the suit and new ideas for wearing it with style and elegance.

THE TAILOR: A CONTEMPORARY GARMENT!

"The suit is a timeless garment. For women, it's synonymous with elegance and a must-have in the professional sphere". For Isabelle, it's a garment that gives confidence and provides good support. "It's a transversal, easy-to-live-with outfit that gives the wearer authority, power and confidence." She also confides that suits often suffer from an old-fashioned, austere image, but that you shouldn't be afraid to make this ensemble your own.

 

 

TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT FITTER YOU MUST ALREADY KNOW YOURSELF

"The most important thing is to have an outfit that fits you and is adapted to your morphology. Too many women buy clothes that are either too big or too small , so it's important to know what suits you best. You also need to think about the length of the sleeves on the jacket or the bottom of the pants. Don't hesitate to have your sleeves retouched. You can easily wear 7/8th pants with flats for a trendier look, or with pumps to subtly show off your ankle." It's easy to see why advice is so important when making this purchase.

DARE TO GO BEYOND THE CONVENTIONAL

As our expert so aptly put it: "There's a suit and there's a suit! Out the one and only option of the black suit. Grey and navy blue are great too! And don't be afraid to experiment with other colors. You could, for example, turn to less common colors like bottle green or, for those who dare, red. In the end, it's all about embracing the color you wear and matching it to your personality"..

 

WHAT TO PUT UNDER YOUR JACKET

"The shirt under a suit remains a great classic, but it can also be replaced by a pretty patterned or colorful blouse, or a shirt with a Lavallière collar. You can even wear a turtleneck. For a slightly more casual look, a pretty t-shirt is also a good choice. For example, a pretty white t-shirt for sunny days".

WHICH SHOES?

"Once you've chosen your suit, you can have fun with your shoes! The combination of suit and pumps works, and always will! But there are other alternatives too, like a nice pair of derbies, ankle boots, ankle boots or sneakers. Derbies for a look that's just as chic without going over the top, and sneakers for a more casual, up-to-the-minute style." 

 

 

PLAYING WITH ACCESSORIES

Or how to add a touch of originality to your suit? "It's all about the subtle choice of accessories, such as a pretty brooch or pin on the lapel or side of the jacket. To wear your suit differently, you can also think about belting it, especially when wearing a long jacket for a very feminine style."
