The secrets of a natural material: wool

We often hear that natural materials should be preferred over all others. But why? What are the properties of one of the materials we wear most: wool?

IDEAL FOR EVERYDAY USE

Because it contains keratin, a protein naturally present in our bodies, wool is healthy for the skin and non-allergenic. The interlocking scales of its fibers provide good thermal insulation and help the body maintain its ideal temperature. Thanks to its ability to retain large quantities of air, wool keeps you warm in winter and, who would have thought it, is a great ally in hot weather.

The wool scales open up to drain moisture to the outside.

Wool is also a hydrophobic material: it doesn't retain water, but repels it. It lets the skin breathe by rejecting the water vapor naturally produced by our bodies. It can even absorb up to 35% of its own weight in water, while remaining totally dry to the touch, so don't hesitate to wear it in damp or rainy weather.

EASY-TO-CLEAN, LOW-CREASE MATERIAL

Thanks to its strong, elastic fibers, wool is easy to clean and smooth. After wearing, simply hang the wool garment for a few hours to allow it to smooth out on a hanger. Also, this waterproof material doesn't get dirty easily.

LOTS OF POSSIBILITIES, LOTS OF STYLES

There are many types and styles of wool. Virgin wool is the most commonly used and comes from sheep. Cashmere, on the other hand, comes from Himalayan goats. Finer and also very warm, this wool is nevertheless more fragile than that from sheep. For a lighter feel and resistant fibers, mohair wool from Angora goats is recommended. You can also opt for American alpaca. Angora, the most luxurious wool, comes from rabbits.

WHY WOOL SUITS AT 17H10?

Wool for a tailor? you'd be surprised!

"Wool" doesn't just mean knitted sweaters, bobbins and needles, as we can play with the diversity of wool types, finding very fine, feminine and superior qualities. In fact, the finest suits are made from wool.

OUR ITALIAN WOOL

We have chosen to source our wool from Italy, a country renowned for its cutting-edge expertise in weaving and spinning. In fact, our transalpine neighbors have managed to maintain superior quality in fabric production. Our spinning mill, Tollegno, is located at the foot of the Piedmont mountains near Milan. The company, which has been in existence for over a century, attaches great importance to the transparency and traceability of its products, and is committed to sustainable projects.

For our suits, we've chosen worsted wool, a fluid, supple quality with a clean, regular appearance. It follows the shape of the silhouette perfectly, so you can move around without feeling constricted. Finally, worsted wool is renowned for its softness. The visual effect is luminous, with many reflections and a deep color.

Our first collection featured four wool colors: black, navy blue, taupe and dark green. The next spring-summer collection, due out in a month's time, will feature four more to be discovered very soon!

With a beautiful cut and fabric, you're sure to finally have a tailor worthy of the name.
