How can I be a responsible customer?

The subject of responsible fashion is often debated, particularly at a time when the fast fashion model is increasingly criticized. In fact, 56 million tonnes of clothing are sold every year, and production has doubled since the early 2000s. 

The ecological consequences of the fast-fashion industry are disastrous, not to mention the social and health consequences. To reach such prices, labor is exploited, workers are underpaid, and working conditions are deplorable.

As for the health consequences of fabric production, they are little-known but very real. Water pollution and exposure to toxic products emanating from factories cause numerous health problems for the workers involved. Disabilities, paralysis, neurological or vascular disorders: investigations are currently underway. 

How can we play a role in the future of fashion today, when it's so easy to buy at low prices? How can we be responsible shoppers in 2021? 

I- A return to slow fashion 

Slow fashion, as opposed to fast fashion, advocates the choice of consuming better quality, eco-responsible and ethical products. Production times are longer, and prices higher, but the social and environmental costs are lower, and this type of consumption is sustainable, since the production process is respectful of our planet and the clothes are of better quality and therefore more resistant.

II- Buying local

Consuming locally means reducing delivery and transport times for materials and finished products, and therefore greenhouse gas emissions. If you have a boutique near you, instead of ordering, go and try the item on for size, to avoid returns and make sure it fits! In the same way, choose brands that produce in countries close to your own, to participate in this effort.

Founded in 1973, it now has over 230 employees and follows the guidelines of SA 8000, a social responsibility standard that promotes decent working conditions.

Likewise, we select our fabric suppliers from among the best in Italy, and our fabrics are certified eco-friendly. Our wool comes from RWS (Responsible Wool Standard) and GOTS (Glabal Organic Textile) certified farms, certifying animal-friendly breeding and organic wool.
