Power tips

Isabelle, image consultant

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

My name is Isabelle Peyrouse and I'm an image consultant. I do this job simply to make women beautiful, and to pass on this know-how. I didn't do this job before. I used to work in finance, in asset management, and I wore suits, whether pants or dresses, and stiletto heels; that was my trademark!

I started image consulting because I love fashion and beauty, and it was a way of combining the two to help women feel beautiful and empowered. When I changed jobs, I gave up tailoring altogether because I'd worn it too much, but for the past few years I've been putting it off because it's a real pleasure. It gives me real confidence.

What does ambition mean to you?

Ambition means doing what you love, and that's why I changed jobs.

Is there a woman who symbolizes ambition for you?

I think of my mother, who was by no means an active woman in the working world, but who raised me intelligently, telling me "fight, work, don't expect anything from others, be strong and above all be independent!"

Do you believe in the power of clothes?

Of course I would! Otherwise I wouldn't be an image consultant. I've seen in my various careers that clothes are very important. People trust you when you're well dressed, and tailoring gives you that confidence. I also think back to my mom, whom I often watched working. She was a seamstress and made her own clothes. I used to watch her get dressed, and to me, you can do anything when you're well dressed. I could see her blossoming in her clothes.

Is there a woman who inspires you?

There's one woman who really captures my attention, and that's Coco Chanel. I've always had a passion for this woman because she used masculine codes to create her own fashion and she really changed feminine standards. Like Yves Saint Laurent with the suit in his own way. Coco Chanel remains my reference because I love accessories, I love everything she did with black and white, and I also love her story. I think she's a woman of power.
