Fashion Revolution Week: towards more sustainable fashion

8 years ago, on April 24, 2013, the collapse of the Rana Plaza factory in Bangladesh left 1,138 people dead and over 2,000 injured. 

While the evacuation of the workers had been requested following an inspection revealing cracks in the building, the garment factory employees had been forced to return to work, under threat of dismissal. 

The disaster, which has been commemorated every year since, was the occasion for a global awakening to the excesses of the fashion industry. 

At the initiative of Carry Somers, designer of the Pachacuti brand, Fashion Revolution Week is an annual opportunity to reflect on the move towards more responsible, sustainable and ethical fashion. 

This year, it runs from April 19 to 25 on the theme of the interdependence of human rights and the rights of nature. 

The rights of man and nature are indeed interdependent, and the health of our planet has an impact on our quality of life. We know that our already fragile planet cannot withstand the aggressions of a highly polluting fashion industry for too long.

This year'sFashion Revolution will focus on reinventing the way brands relate to each other and to production, encouraging collaboration and mutual support, encouraging major international bodies to make their voices heard in order to change things, and encouraging everyone to try more responsible consumption.

Founded in 1973, it now has over 230 employees and follows the guidelines of SA 8000, a social responsibility standard that promotes decent working conditions. 

In the same way we select our fabric suppliers from among the best in Italy, and our fabrics are certified ecologically responsible. Our wool comes from RWS (Responsible Wool Standard) and GOTS (Glabal Organic Textile) certified farms, certifying animal-friendly breeding and organic wool.
